Bayer produced his first designs in 1925 for a minimal sans serif typeface, based on his stuident thesis on the single-alphabet, with the abandonment of capital letters. This 'universal' alphabet was designed for exclusive Bauhaus use, but was never cut as a type. Architype Bayer has been drawn from Bauhaus Archiv references of original sketches.
